Callaloo Focuses on African American literature, including Afro-Hispanic and Caribbean literature. Issues from 1976-1994 are available in JSTOR.

MLN (Modern Language Notes) Publishes a special issue devoted to the Spanish speaking world every year. Issues from 1886-1961 and 1962-1994 are available in JSTOR.
Renaissance Quarterly From the Renaissance Society of America. Issues from 1967-1998 are available in JSTOR.
Renaissance News and Notes Absorbed by Renaissance Quarterly after 1967. Issues from 1948-1966 are available in JSTOR.
Representations Interdisciplinary journal on literature, history, art history, anthropology, and social theory. Offers theoretical perspectives of interest to Hispanists. Issues from 1983-1997 are available.
Speculum Journal of the Medieval Academy. Primary focus on Western Europe including Spain. Byzantine, Hebrew, and Arabic studies, all relevant to Spain, are also included. Issues from 1926-1996 are available.
Studies in the Renaissance Absorbed by Renaissance Quarterly after 1974. Issues from 1954-1974 are available in JSTOR.
Transition Focuses primarily on Africa and the African diaspora, including the African diaspora to Latin America; theoretical perspectives on colonialism and "globalization" are of interest to Latin Americanists. Issues from 1961-1999 are available in JSTOR.

Academic Search Premier is a full text database accessible to UL Lafayette users, accessible through the Dupré Library reference page.  From the reference page, open the link to Academic Search Premier and click on the icon Publication Search.  Then type the title of the journal you would like to view into the search box. Available journals are listed below. Some are also linked to their own web sites, where you can view tables of contents and, in some cases, sample copies.  To gain access to them in full text, you must go through Academic Search Premier.

UNESCO Courier Archives 1948-2001 available at UNESCO site. Full text in Academic Search Premier September 1993 to December 2001. Publication ceased in December, 2001.


Following is a partial guide to major scholarly journals in and related to Spanish and Latin American Studies and to online indices of journals and periodicals of which researchers will want to be aware.  These journals may not be directly available to UL Lafayette users, but we can request articles from them through Interlibrary Loan.

DATABASES AND INDICES

ARL Latin Americanist Research Resources Project contains the tables of contents of many Latin American journals (organized by country), as well as an extensive collection of presidential speeches dating back to the 19th century.
Compludoc is an extensive index of journal articles from the libraries of the University of Madrid.
Hispanic American Periodicals Index (HAPI) contains complete bibliographic citations to articles, book reviews, documents, original literary works, and other materials appearing in more than 400 key social science and humanities journals published throughout the world. UL Lafayette users cannot search HAPI Online, but Dupré Library has a complete print run of HAPI at Z1605 H612 H3.
The MLA Bibliography, accessible through Dupré Library's reference page, is the most complete source for citations on languages and literatures.
Scholarly Articles Research Alerting (SARA) This commercial site allows you to view the tables of contents and article abstracts of the over 1050 scholarly journals, including journals relevant to LAS such as Third Text and Third World Quarterly. The database includes all journals published by Carfax, Martin Dunitz, Psychology Press, Routledge, Spon Press, and Taylor & Francis.

JOURNALS FROM PROJECT MUSE


Project Muse permits general users to browse the tables of contents and view sample copies and, in some cases, the archives of the many excellent journals they host. Full text versions of these journals are available online to users whose institutions subscribe to Project Muse.

The Americas An excellent journal of Latin American history from Catholic University (Washington, DC).
Callaloo African American literature, including Afro-Hispanic and Caribbean literature. Issues from 1976-1994 are also acessible in full text to UL Lafayette users through JSTOR.
Hispanic American Historical Review
Hopscotch Latin American and U.S. Hispanic literature, culture, cinema, music and art. Edited by Ilan Stavans.
Journal of Colonialism and Colonial History Focus is not strictly Latin American but theoretical perspectives are of interest to Hispanists.
Latin American Music Review
Modern Fiction Studies Theoretical perspectives of interest to Hispanists.
MLN (Modern Language Notes) This well established and respected journal on language and literature publishes a special issue devoted to the Spanish speaking world every year. Issues from 1886-1961 and 1962-1994 are also accessible in full text to UL Lafayette users through JSTOR.
Modern Language Quarterly
Modernism/Modernity Each issue contains at least one article of interest to Hispanists, and the theoretical perspectives are useful for anyone working on modern culture.
Nepantla On Latin American culture.
New Literary History Literary journal of general interest; theoretical perspectives of interest to Hispanists.
Poetics Today Offers theoretical perspectives pertinent to our field.
